PSOL Trump, hands off Latin America!

PSOL 17 October 2025

The Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL) expresses its deep concern about the increasing military provocations by the United States off the Venezuelan coast under the Donald Trump administration. This week, as widely reported in the press, the U.S. Air Force sent three B-52 strategic bombers on a flight in the Caribbean Sea off the Venezuelan coast, arriving less than 200 km from Caracas.

This escalation of military threats poses a serious risk not only to Venezuela, but to the sovereignty of Latin America as a whole, increasing the danger of a military conflict with incalculable consequences.

Under the pretext of "combating drug trafficking," US imperialism and the far right disregard the essential principles of people's self-determination and non-intervention, which are pillars of regional peace and stability. Latin America is and must remain a territory of peace and solidarity—not of war.

The main motivation behind these maneuvers lies in the economic interest in controlling Venezuela's vast natural resources, particularly oil and rare earths. Venezuela must have the right to exercise full sovereignty over its territory, just as all Latin American countries have the right to define their own paths, free from military coercion or economic pressure from foreign powers. Defending sovereignty and control over its resources is a fundamental principle of international law.

Therefore, at this point, whether or not to support the Venezuelan government is not at stake. Regardless of one's opinion of the Venezuelan government, defending the integrity of its territory in the face of potential US aggression is a fundamental anti-imperialist issue.

An immediate cessation of all military provocations and the withdrawal of US forces from Venezuelan territory are crucial. Building lasting peace in our region requires mutual respect among nations and the definitive abandonment of any policy of intervention.
